So you have decided to build your dream home. Here are a few truths about building your dream log home.
1) It is more expensive to build a log home than a conventional home. True -- about $20 per square foot.
2) The design of your home has the biggest impact on your overall build out cost. Absolutely!
3) The type of logs that you choose to build your home with does matter. Of course this is true, and red cypress and western red cedar are the best.
4) Beware of companies that do not list exactly the amount of material that it is going to supply and where it is going to be used in the construction of your home. True again.
5) Comparing log packages before you have the design completed is a waste of time. Smart move! If you compare before you have the design completed, then you have to compare exact linear footage of all supplied material to get close to being able to really compare log packages.
6) Take your time in designing your home, find a local builder, then finalize your plans after you have your builder. The best plan for all!
